The Orthaceras Has Landed

Orthoceras were an ancient mollusk that lived more than 400 million years ago. The name means “straight horn” in Latin, referring to its straight shell. It is an ancestor to the modern-day squid, octopus and nautilus. It used its shell for protection and flotation, with its body and tentacles coming out of the large end opening. Imagine a squid with a shell protecting it. The Orthoceras probably ate small fish and other sea animals.

And now, you can own one! This fossilized orthacerus is truly a work of art. It measures 27" from the base and is about 6" across. This giant fossil is a coup for any fossil collector and is a beautiful addition to a modern home, study or work place.
